Timetable or route charts give a crew the route-specific information needed to operate safely and smoothly. They lay out exactly what stops you’ll make on a given run, how to reach yard areas or connections, where the signals along the route are and what those signals mean for movement, and the operating rules that apply to that route. With all of this in one reference, the crew can plan the movement, obey signals, and follow the proper procedures as they travel the line.

This isn’t about identifying maintenance facilities, passenger seating, or weather forecasts. Those items aren’t the information a timetable or route chart is meant to convey for the purpose of guiding train operation on a specific route.
